About my services
I have been teaching guitar (acoustic and electric), bass and pedal steel for more than 30 years. I received my degree in Music Education from Sioux Falls College in South Dakota. My specialization was in music theory and trombone performance while singing with the choir and madrigal groups. When young I studied piano and violin until the 6th grade then migrated to trombone which I played all the way through college.
I started playing guitar while in college and it became my instrument of choice. After several years of teaching myself acoustic guitar, I graduated to electric guitar, then pedal steel guitar and then bass guitar. I began playing in bands and playing in clubs on the road for many years. During this time and to the present, I taught students around the country what I knew about playing, practicing and performing. I have coached very many students on how to play just for their own pleasure and how to play with people in jam and band settings.
Coaching and seeing progress in my students ( the 'aha' moments) are the most rewarding parts of my experience. I go to great lengths to determine how a student best learns and assimilates the ability to enjoy music for the rest of their lives. Each student learns in different ways and I accommodate all learning styles. I work with all ages and abilities.
Depending on the amount of practice the student puts in, they will develop not only an appreciation of many genres of music but the ability to play songs in many styles.
How quickly he or she learns the instrument is entirely dependent on the amount of time spent practicing. I am able to bring out the best music of which you are capable of playing.
You CAN make music and get the enjoyment that playing music offers.
